Measuring and strengthening the purchasing power of Kendal's community

Kendal – BPS Kendal Regency once again served as a speaker at the SELASANAN agenda organized by Baperlitbang in the Acceleration Room of Baperlitbang Kendal Regency on Tuesday (25/2). SELASANAN is a program initiated by Baperlitbang and BPS Kendal Regency to thoroughly explore BPS macro indicators used by the local government in the planning and evaluation stages of development programs. The goal is to enhance the local government's literacy regarding BPS data, ultimately leading to more effective and well-targeted development planning.

On this occasion, Ade Sandi emphasized that BPS Kendal Regency is always ready to support the government’s data needs while also sharing knowledge to improve local government data literacy. He also highlighted the importance of government support for census and survey activities conducted by BPS, as such support is crucial in increasing response rates and ensuring more accurate indicators.

The material was presented by Indriyati and Yupensius Sumardi, Young Expert Statisticians at BPS Kendal Regency. Based on the contribution of household consumption to Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) by Expenditure, which serves as an approach to assessing purchasing power trends, data shows a decline over the past three years. The percentage dropped from Several factors influence purchasing power, including income levels, inflation, layoffs, government policies, and consumption patterns. Indri and Yupen explained that although Kendal Regency’s per capita expenditure has consistently increased over the past five years, inflation and the still-high unemployment rate in Kendal could be contributing factors to the decline in the community’s purchasing power.
